Dreamliner ‘Akash Beena’ is being added to Biman on Sunday

One more step advancement adding in the service of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. National flag carrier aircraft is set to enter a new era as its first Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 is set to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

Touted in as the fifteenth aircraft of Biman’s fleet, the newest entrant is slated to usher in a new generation of aircraft.

Water cannons to be blown to welcome the first Dreamliner of a four-flight fleet on tf the national carrier.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has chosen its name as Akash Beena.

In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a US$2.1 billion agreement with aircraft manufacturer Boeing to purchase 10 new aircraft.

So far, four new Boeing 777-300 and two Boeing 737-800 aircraft were commissioned while the first one of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner to be reaching here on Sunday.

Shakil Meraj, General Manager (Public Relations) of Biman, said that the prime minister is scheduled to inaugurate the first flight of the Dreamliner on September 1, slated to fly to Kuala Lumpur.

The aircraft will initially be used to operate flights from Dhaka to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

It will provide its passengers with wifi services at a height of 43,000 feet, allowing passengers to browse the internet or connect with their friends and family at any end of the world.

The aircraft will also have in-flight entertainment system through which passengers will be able to enjoy classics or blockbuster movies, music of different genres, and video games and livestreaming of nine world-famous television channels. It will also provide facilities for online shopping, with a credit card or cash payment allowed on the on-board duty-free shop.

The Boeing 787-8, designed to be 20 percent fuel efficient, has a total of 271 seats with 24 in business class and 247 in economy class.
