Bir Protik Taramon Bibi no more
Bir Protik Taramon Bibi, one of the only two women who received the “Bir Protik” award for gallantry in the 1971 Liberation War, has passed away early Saturday. She was 61.
She has died around 1:30am at her village home in Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram, family sources have confirmed the news.

Bir Protik Taramon Bibi was admitted to Combined Military Hospital in Mymensingh on November 8 and shifted to village home after necessary treatment.
She has been suffering from respiratory complications including COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and dyspnoea.
Taramon Bibi took part in the liberation war when she had fought the war under Sector-11 led by Col Abu Taher.
In 1973, she was honoured with gallantry award ‘Bir Pratik’ for her contributions in the war.
Another woman Freedom Fighter Bir Protik Kakon Bibi was also passed away on March 21 this year.
