PM opens free textbooks distribution festival
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has formally inaugurated the free textbooks distribution festival at a function in the capital today.
According to the ministry sources, as many as 35,21,97,882 free textbooks would be distributed among 4,26,19,865 primary and secondary level students on January 1 across the country in the academic year 2019.
National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) chairman Prof Narayan Chandra Saha yesterday said the government distributed 260.86 crore textbooks for free among the pre-primary, primary, secondary, ebtedayee and SSC level students in the last nine academic years.
He also said that the government distributed 35,42,90,162 textbooks among 4,37,06,895 pre-primary, primary, secondary, ebtedayee and SSC level students last year.
Distribution of free textbook was started since 2010 at both primary and secondary level across the country.
Earlier this morning, the prime minister published the results of Primary Education Completion (PEC), Ebtedayee, Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations- 2018 at the same programme.
According to the results, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said over 85 per cent students passed eighth-grade terminal tests Junior School Certificate (JSC).
The results show 85.2% students passed the Junior School Certificate (JSC) while it is 89.04% in the Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations.
Nurul Islam Nahid, however, said a total of 22,30,829 students passed the JSC and JDC exams out of 25,99,169 appeared in those examinations.
