Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has phoned Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and they have underscored the need for a global movement against terrorism; urging the international community to act together to uproot terrorism.

On Monday morning, the PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said: "The Canadian Prime Minister strongly denounced the terrorist attacks on two Christchurch mosques in New Zealand.”

He added that during the nearly 20-minute conversation, the Canadian Prime Minister was relieved that members of the Bangladesh cricket team were safe.

The press secretary also said that the Canadian Prime Minister expressed his concern over the safety of the Bangladesh national cricket team as they had narrowly escaped Friday's brutal attacks; that left 50 people—including five Bangladeshis—dead, and scores of others injured.

Trudeau offered his deep condolences at the loss of lives of 50 people, including Bangladeshis, in the New Zealand twin mosque attacks.

The press secretary said Sheikh Hasina told Trudeau that there is a need for a global movement against terrorism. In response, the Canadian Prime Minister backed Hasina's view and said the world community should act together to stamp out terrorism.

Reiterating her government's "zero tolerance" policy against terrorism, Hasina said that Bangladesh denounces terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

She remarked: "Bangladesh is a land of peace and communal harmony, and we have asked law enforcement agencies to stay vigilant and protect all places of worship; including mosques, temples, churches, and pagodas.”

Hasina said that Islam does not allow terrorism in any forms and that terrorists have no religion or boundaries.

She furthered that Bangladesh's government has made concerted efforts to ensure the safety and security of the people and root terrorism out of society.

The Bangladesh Prime Minister renewed her call to extradite Bangabandhu's self-confessed killer Noor Chowdhury who is now staying in Canada.

In her words: "Fleeing justice, Noor Chowdhury is presently living in Canada. It would be a great service to the rule of law if Canada hands over the killer to Bangladesh so he faces justice.”

In response, the Canadian Prime Minister said that it is a legal matter and that they will look into it.

Hasina expressed her firm optimism that Bangladesh and Canada will remain engaged further as mutually cooperative, supportive, and respectful partners in the journey towards further development and progress.

She also invited Trudeau to visit Bangladesh and wished his success in the upcoming Canadian polls.

The Canadian Prime Minister extended his heartfelt congratulations to Sheikh Hasina on her party's landslide victory in the last general election and her assumption of office as the prime minister for the fourth time.
